How long does a new website take to build?

(A) A small website (3-10 pages) could take 2-4 weeks to construct from start to finish. But, this ‘time factor’ depends on the client having a good idea on what content the website should contain. Also, prompt feedback from the customer is important, in order to progress the project.

What is Web Video Streaming?

(A) Web video is the latest innovation for Broadband enabled web-surfers. The UK for example, has more than 55% of the internet users on broadband connections. This means Web Video is starting to be used by more and more websites for advertising and leisure proposes.

Video streaming allows a web video to run on the web page in real time after a brief wait of a few seconds, instead of the usual method of waiting to download the video file first. Plus, because the video is embedded on the web page along side any text and graphics, the video message has more impact to the website visitor.

Any website could have pages showing video clips and short movies highlighting goods and services offered. Clients could use their existing sales or information video as the basis for there own website video.

I already have a website but would like to add promotional web video streaming to one of my web pages’?

No problem, just follow these simple steps!

  1. If the video is more or less complete and recorded on a DVD, VHS tape etc, the video can be sent to Webwonder.co.uk by secure post along with a small deposit of £20.00. On arrival the video will be edited and converted into a suitable format. If a music soundtrack is required, this can be supplied as a sound file recorded on a supplied CD, in ‘WAV’ or ‘MP3’ format.

  2. Once the video is completed the video file will be uploaded to a temporary Internet location with a simple ‘Click-on’ link sent to the customer via email. The video can then be viewed to check everything is satisfactory.

  3. Once the customer is satisfied with the video, details of the customers website FTP login will be needed in order to down-load the web page, write the HTML code, embed the video on the web page where required, and upload the new web page along with the compressed video file. The video will be checked and tested to ensure it works properly. At this point an invoice for the balance of the fee will be sent via email to the customer.

Please go to the 'Video' page for more details.

Is a Domain name important?

(A) Yes. A domain name gives the website a corporate identity and should be easy to remember. Also, ‘Search Engines’ give a higher rating in search results when the website domain name relates to the site contents. The cost of domain names varies, but can be obtained for around £10 plus a small registration fee.

What are the various build stages of the website construction process?

(A)

  1. Outline quotation - We will provide you with an outline figure as to how much we believe your web site design is likely to cost.

  2. Specification and consultation - We will require you to provide us with as much information as you can about how you would like the site to look (colour, site navigation etc) and an estimated number of pages you expect the site to have. If you like any particular sites, we would like you to provide addresses for these sites and explain what you like about these. We can then produce a detailed specification of what we will provide, how long we expect the process to take, and also provide a detailed quote for the work. Providing that you are happy with our proposal, we then ask you for a deposit consisting of 50% of the overall costs.

  3. Mockup - We will produce one or more graphical representations as to how your web site may look. This mockup page can be viewed at a temporary internet location. At this stage, we value any input regarding likes and dislikes. It is important to note that we will not start work on any site unless ALL the site content has been provided.

  4. Development - Once the specification and the overall layout of the design has been approved, we begin developing the site. This includes any graphical work, coding, and integration testing that will be required.

  5. Testing - A 'Beta' version of the site will be made available for testing 'on-line' at various points during development. The customer will be provided with a website 'link' via email to view the developing website at any time during the project.

  6. Webspace - Standard webspace is provided Free for the first year for all new customers. This webspace is for customers not wishing to update the website themselves, and would like Webwonder to carry out website maintenance and updating. If a customer would like a more comprehensive website hosting package with self updating and web stats, this can be arranged.

  7. Going Live! - The remaining balance for the work is paid and the site becomes live. We then submit the site to various search engines so that future visitors can find your site.
